Hebrew Audio Credits

Apart from the author's own voice recordings, much of the Hebrew audio was recited by Father Abraham Shmuelof (Z"L), who later entrusted his voice recordings to the Carmelites in devotion to St. Theresa of Lisieux. The original tape recordings were transferred to digital audio by Audio Scriptures International and then converted to mp3 files by the Academy of Ancient Languages. Audio Scriptures International provides a web resource providing the translated Scriptures in audio format for those who cannot read (Hebrew Old Testament portions used by permission). Please visit their excellent web site for more infomation.

Artwork Credits

All photographs on the Hebrew for Christians site are my own work as a photographer. All graphics iimages using Hebrew are my own work as well. Many of the pictures on this site come from the inimitable Marc Chagall (1887-1985), perhaps the greatest Jewish artist of the 20th century. You will see many small (low-resolution) representations of Chagall's famous stained glass windows, his wonderful paintings, and even a few of his mosaics. All other images on this site not directly created by me, however, are considered public domain or in some cases the name of the artist is indicated next to the image. However, in accordance with Title 17 U.S.C. section 107, any copyrighted material contained herein for which I have been unable to obtain publication permission is distributed without profit or payment and is provided for the purpose of nonprofit research and educational purposes only. In other words, none of the images used on this site are intended to be sold or to be used for financial purposes of any kind.

Why This Policy?

While it's true that the LORD gives His Word to all who ask for it, and while it is also true that God's salvation is a free gift to those who come to Him in childlike faith, it is nevertheless taught that those who labor in the Word should be compensated, at least on some level (see Gal. 6:6, 1 Tim. 5:17-18, 1 Cor. 9:14). Besides the amount of writing I do, the work I do on this site involves a lot of development and programming, not to mention the costs associated with web hosting, etc.  None of it comes "by magic" but is the result of a lot of late nights working behind the scenes...  Moreover, some of the material on this site is itself copyrighted by others (for example, some of the sound recordings or images), and I cannot give permission to use work that doesn't belong to me...

I suppose my biggest concern, however, is with the misuse of this material. For instance, I have repeatedly seen my writing published (without my permission) on other sites that are advocating legalistic Torah observance as a means of sanctification -- a doctrine of which I particularly disagree. This is especially frustrating and demotivating to me.

At any rate, I plan to continue this work as long as the LORD gives me the grace to do so. I sincerely believe it is of value to Christians to learn about their Jewish heritage and to remember that Jesus lived as a Jew (Romans 15:8). Many errors in Christian theology have arisen due to forgetfulness of the "grafted in" status of the Church (Romans 11), particularly in the areas of eschatology, ecclesiology, hermeneutics, and so on.  How can we understand the Jewish Messiah without having the heart of a Jew?  How can we understand our faith -- and even ourselves -- if we forget our history?

Shalom and be well!
