The Hebrew word of the week is devarim ("words"), a plural noun that is derived from the shoresh diber (to speak). Both the word devarim (with the definite article) and its shoresh appear in the first verse of Parashat Devarim (i.e., Deuteronomy 1:1):
After these things the word of the LORD came unto Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward. (Genesis 15:1)
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. (John 1:1)
