The Paths of the LORD |
All the paths of the LORD are mercy and truth unto such as keep |
The paths of the Lord (orechot Adonai) refer to Torah, God's direction and instruction graciously revealed to mankind (see Isaiah 2:3). The mercy (chesed) of the Lord is expressed in His covenant with us (chesed refers to God's covenantal mercy), and the truth (emet) of the Lord is expressed in His sure testimonies to us (the word edah refers to the witness of God's revelation). |
The Lord Jesus distilled these paths of the Lord to be the way of Love: the love of God and the love of one's fellow man (see Matthew 22:37-40). When we adhere to the covenant of the Lord and believe in His testimonies, our way of life will be marked by love expressed in mercy and integrity for one another. The Lord Jesus stated that a lifestyle of such love will demonstrate to all people that we are truly His disciples (see John 13:35, 15:12). |
