5th Principle: Pray to God alone

The Fifth Principle -

We are to Pray to God Alone

Printer-Friendly Version

The fifth principle of faith is the belief that all our prayers should be addressed directly to God alone, without need for intermediaries such as priests, angels, or departed saints (such as departed Rebbes, prophets, or Miriam, the mother of Yeshua).

"I believe with complete faith that the Creator, blessed be His Name, is the only One to whom we should pray, and it is not proper to pray to any other."

Maimonides elaborates, ""God is the only one we may serve and praise....We may not act in this way toward anything beneath God, whether it be an angel, a star, or one of the elements.....There are no intermediaries between us and God. All our prayers should be directed towards God; nothing else should even be considered.."

In the Brit Chadashah:

Since Yeshua the Messiah is Adonai in the flesh, He alone is the Mediator between God and mankind, and He alone is a High Priest on behlaf of the needs of humanity. Praying to Yeshua is therefore not a violation of this principle of the Jewish faith, since He Himself is LORD and Almighty God. That is, there is only One sovereign, living God, and He is "Echad" as Father, Son and Holy Spirit (Hashilush HaKadosh).

For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men,
the man Christ Jesus (1 Timothy 2:5)
